Achievements Of The Department Of Labour (2007-2013)

  • 1, 01,267 construction workers have been registered as beneficiaries of the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
  • Benefits under various welfare schemes viz. shagun on the marriage of daughter, L.T.C. facility, Rashtriya Swasth Bima Yojna and Scholarship to the children of the worker are given to construction workers and their families.
  • Minimum Wages were revised for various categories of workers. W.e.f. 1-9-2012. Now Wages for un-skilled worker are Rs 5695/- Per Month, Rs. 219.20 per day and Rs. 42915.80 annually for agriculture worker.
  • Approximately Rs. 1.20 crores have been spent on providing benefits under various labour welfare schemes of the Punjab Labour Welfare Board during the year 2012.
  • Industrial Tribunal at Chandigarh was abolished and six labour courts in the State of Punjab were converted to Industrial Tribunals, thereby providing justice to workers at their door steps.

Future Plans

  • Rs. Ten crore to be spent on construction of labour sheds and night shelters for the construction workers during the financial year 2013-14.
  • Rs. One lakh each was paid to the construction worker or his family on his permanent disablement or death as the case may be.
